Luigi Porto

Description

Luigi Porto was born in Cosenza (Italy).

A self-taught composer and professional sound designer, Luigi lives and works between Europe and US, pursuing his double-faced career.

He worked in the post sound department of over 20 films, screened at the most important festivals worldwide:

Cannes, Venezia, Roma, Torino, Locarno, Berlin, Toronto, BAFTA,
Tampa International, Hoboken to name a few - also one film shortlisted for Academy Awards (East West East).

At the same time he writes music, collaborating with directors and artists,
releasing albums, scoring feature films, documentaries and theatrical plays.
Luigi released albums with different bands and solo projects (Maisie, Appleyard College, Mond)
as well as under his own name (the recent Scimmie, released in 2014).


Since 2013 he is Composer in Residence and Chief Sound Designer at NY International Brazilian Opera company,
for which he wrote the song cycle The run-o'-the-Mill and is currently revising the chamber opera Anita!.
Both works were premièred in Manhattan in 2014.


From time to time he publishes essays on cinema and sound poetry and tech tutorials on some magazines.

As a sound artist, he collaborated with artists and performers
at Romaeuropa, Affordable Art Fair, No Longer Empty
and premiered his own sound installations at Art of sound/Sound of art, Voci dei monumenti.
